Mobility 21 Coalition Meeting June 2
in Monterey Park
The Mobility
21 Coalition, a transportation advocacy group, will
meet Friday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
at Luminarias
Restaurant in Monterey Park.
The meeting will focus
on two key transportation issues: 1) the status of
the Metro
Gold Line Eastside Extension
and 2) the Highway Safety, Traffic Reduction, Air
Quality and Port Security Bond Act of 2006 that was
recently
passed by the California State Legislature and slated
to be on
the November statewide ballot. If passed, this constitutional
amendment would restrict the California Legislature’s
ability to borrow Proposition 42 sales tax on gasoline
funds for purposes other than transportation.
Invited
speakers include: Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard,
California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, Metro
Board Member and Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria
Molina
and Monterey
Park Mayor Betty Tom Chu.
The Mobility 21 Coalition
is a countywide organization led by Metro, the Los
Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce
and the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Since its creation in 2002, Mobility 21 has brought
together
key
transportation stakeholders in Los Angeles County,
including businesses, transportation providers,
elected officials
and community organizations with the goal of
enhancing the network of bus, rail and highways.
