Fourth
Annual Mobility 21 Summit Set for Nov. 14 at Long Beach
Convention Center
Transportation and its
role in the economy, global marketplace and homeland security
will
be the focus of the day on Nov.
14 when the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation
Authority and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce,
in partnership with the Automobile Club of Southern California,
host the fourth annual Mobility 21 transportation summit
at the Long Beach Convention Center. Mobility 21: LA County
Moving Together is aimed at bringing together leaders from
the public and private sectors, including elected officials,
transportation providers, business and the community, to
develop solutions to the region’s traffic challenges.
The
opening session will include addresses by Metro CEO Roger
Snoble, L.A. Area Chamber President and CEO Rusty
Hammer and Dan Beal, managing director of public policy
for the Automobile Club of Southern California. In addition,
the morning will feature a finance plenary session that
will explore creative financing ideas for building needed
transportation infrastructure with panelists including
Nicholas Hann, managing director of Macquarie North America
Ltd., and Tim Ransdell, executive director of the California
Institute for Federal Policy Research.
In addition, the
concurrent breakout sessions will cover a variety of topics
including: transportation and its role
in the global economy, transportation and the quality of
life in Los Angeles, and homeland security and ensuring
the safety of transportation. Featured moderators and panelists
include: retired Lt. General Robert Flowers, former chief
of engineers and commanding general of the Army Corps of
Engineers; Matthew Bettenhausen, director of the State
of California Office of Homeland Security; Long Beach City
Councilmember and MTA Board Member Bonnie Lowenthal; Dr.
Peter Ruane, president and CEO, American Road and Transportation
Builders of America; Dr. John Husing, vice president, Economics & Politics,
Inc.; Dr. Joseph Magaddino, department chair, Department
of Economics, California State University, Long Beach;
Edward Mortimer, director, transportation infrastructure
Congressional and public affairs division, U.S. Chamber
of Commerce; Thomas DiPrima, chair, Golden State Gateway
Coalition; Dean Kubani, senior environmental policy analyst,
City of Santa Monica and California State Senator Alan
Lowenthal.
The afternoon will feature
remarks by Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill and Los
Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa (invited). Leon Panetta,
former chief of staff
to President
Clinton and former U.S. congressman, will deliver the keynote
address.
