Mobility 21 Coalition and San Gabriel Valley Legislators Highlight Need for Continued Investment in Transportation to Ease Traffic Congestion

State legislators representing the San Gabriel Valley continued to stress the need for transportation funding to help ease traffic gridlock at a meeting of the Mobility 21 Coalition held at The Bistro in Alhambra on May 6.

State Senator Bob Margett and Assemblymember Bob Huff, both members of the state transportation committee, offered their views about key San Gabriel Valley transportation issues.

John Fasana, who is a Duarte city council member and also serves on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors, highlighted the need for continued attention to transportation issues in order to continue the area’s job creation and economic development.

In addition, the coalition meeting was attended by representatives from state and federal elected officials including Mario Beltran, field deputy for Assemblymember Judy Chu; Dan Farkas, deputy for Senator Gil Cedillo; Ann Peifer, district director for Congressman Adam Schiff; David Varnam, district representative for Congressman Gary Miller; Mark Harmsen, district director for Congressman David Dreier; Adolfo Bailon, field representative for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and Lisa Pringle, field representative for Congresswoman Hilda Solis.

Metro CEO Roger Snoble welcomed the group and outlined the importance of Mobility 21, which is a countywide effort to bring together elected officials, transportation providers, businesses and community leaders to develop solutions to the transportation issues facing Los Angeles County.

The Mobility 21 initiative kicked off in 2002 and is led by Metro and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Automobile Club of Southern California. The Fourth Annual Mobility 21 Summit will be held November 14 at the Long Beach Convention Center.
